According to reports, the film is a joint project of Russian space agency Roscosmos, Russia’s Channel One and Yellow, Black and White Studios.
The film was shot in October 2021 at the International Space Station. A few months later, in February, Russia invaded Ukraine. The Russian Space Agency announced this film in the year 2020. Yulia Peresild, 37, was chosen for the role of Zhenya in the film. The Challenge trailer has been released on Roscosmos TV.
